Chapter 5. CULTURAL AND SOCIO-ECONOMIC CRITERIA

(Guidelines and Criteria Section B / Cultural and Socio-Economic Criteria) Nominated Areas must conform, where applicable, to at least one of the three Cultural and Socio-Economic Criteria. If applicable, describe how the nominated site satisfies one or more of the following three Criteria (Attach in Annex any specific and relevant documents in support of these criteria).

Cultural and traditional use:


The main cultural value is the education and awareness of the local population about the historical values of the National Park. A new fort (Gilboa Fort) was discovered during an archaeological survey by the National Park in 2007, the sugar mill, ovens, stone walls and distillery have been cleared for easy access. The National Parks staff take school children and adult groups on guided tours to the historical features.
